Legal bases for processing (visitors in the EEA and UK

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following bases: your consent (for non-essential cookies and marketing email); performance of a contract (to provide services you request); legitimate interests (site security, service improvement, responding to business inquiries); and legal obligation (tax and records retention).

Cookies and analytics

Our site uses cookies and similar technologies. These fall into two groups:

Strictly necessary cookies keep the site functioning — session handling, security, spam prevention, and remembering your cookie preferences. These cannot be switched off.

Analytics and advertising cookies help us understand site traffic. If we use Google Analytics or Google Ads, those services set cookies and process data under Google’s own terms. You can review Google’s practices at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, and we implement Google Consent Mode v2 so that Google tags respect your choice. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time through the cookie banner or the cookie settings link on our site.

You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the site from working.

Global Privacy Control. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out request under California law.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising in exchange for money.

We do share information with service providers who help us operate the business, and only to the extent they need it to perform their function:

  • Website hosting and security providers
  • Email hosting provider (used to receive and reply to your messages)
  • Form and spam-prevention services used on our contact form
  • Analytics and advertising platforms, if enabled, subject to your cookie choices
  • Accounting, payment processing, and payroll providers, for customers who engage our services
  • Accreditation bodies and auditors, where required to demonstrate compliance with quality standards

We may also disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order; to protect our rights, safety, or property; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you of any material change to how your information is handled.

How long we keep your information

We keep contact form submissions and business correspondence for as long as needed to respond and to maintain a record of the business relationship, generally three years from last contact for inquiries that do not become customers.

Customer service records, calibration certificates, and associated measurement data are retained for the period required by our quality management system and applicable accreditation standards, and in no case less than the retention period required by our customer agreements or by law. Financial and tax records are retained for seven years.

Analytics data is retained according to the settings of the analytics platform, typically no longer than 14 months.

Your privacy rights

California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it; to request a copy of that information; to request correction of inaccurate information; to request deletion; and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the statute. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

EEA and UK residents. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data; the right to data portability; the right to withdraw consent at any time; and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Other states. Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and Montana, have comparable rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out. We extend these rights to all visitors regardless of residence.

How to exercise your rights. Email service@fpdcal.com or call 805-452-5170. We will verify your identity before acting on a request, typically by confirming information already in our records. We respond within 45 days and may extend once where permitted. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with proof of authorization.

International transfers

We are based in the United States and our service providers are primarily located in the United States. If you contact us from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved transfer mechanism.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and secured email hosting. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s privacy

Our services are directed to businesses, not to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Marketing communications

If we send you marketing email, every message will include an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Opting out of marketing does not stop service-related messages such as calibration due-date reminders or certificate delivery, which are part of the service you have requested.

Links to other sites

Our site may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them. Review their policies before providing information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our practices or the law changes. We will post the revised policy here with an updated effective date. Material changes will be noted prominently on the site. Your continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
